ShipStation Packing List Instructions:
ShipStation Packing Lists can be made to contain the Order ID barcode. By default, their packing slips do contain a barcode, but it is a custom one that is only recognized by the ShipStation software. To create a Packing Slip Template that can be recognized by SerialTrack, please follow the instructions below:
- When logged in to ShipStation, go to Settings (gear icon in the top-right corner), then Templates (Left Nav), then Packing Slips (Left Nav),
- Click on “Copy” next to the packing slip that you’d like to use, then click “Confirm” to make a copy of it.
- Change the “Template Name” at the top to be something you’ll remember. Maybe “SerialTrack.io Compatible Packing Slip”
- The main body of the screen will be an HTML template that will be printed as the packing slip. We suggest adding a barcode directly under the Order Number in the “Order Header” section. Look for the part that says [Order #], and immediately after that add <br /> and on the next line paste in <barcode size=”small”>[Order #]</barcode>.
- Click Download Sample to make sure it looks like you want.
- Click Save when complete.
- Still in Setting, navigate to Selling Channels, then Store Setup.
- For each store, click on Edit, then on the Packing Slips tab.
- From the Packing Slip Template dropdown, select the new packing slip that you created and click Save.
- Now packing slips that are printed will have a barcode that can be used by SerialTrack
What barcode scanners are supported by SerialTrack?
SerialTrack is made to use with simple inputs and does not need any fancyl hardware. For a barcode scanner, we recommend looking on Amazon or similar for a simple USB Barcode Scanner. There are many options in the $15-$30 range. These devices simply emulate a keyboard. When you scan a barcode they do the same thing as if you typed the digits of the barcode and hit enter.
You can get battery-powered wireless devices if that fits your workflow better. These usually operate the same way with a small USB stick that communicates with the barcode scanner. The wireless devices are in the $60-$80 range. Keep in mind you need to charge them by plugging them in or replacing batteries.
